Greetings
to you all. We appreciate your taking the time to sign up for our newsletter
and its great to have a chance to share info with you.
Thanks for letting us keep in touch.
Lots of exciting things happening around here. The Goodbuyguys
live in Chapel
Hill, NC the home
of the University
of North Carolina, so September and
the beginning of school means we get to see lots of friends who are
not around for the summer. Its good to have them back, and would be
happy to have you come by for a visit as well. http://www.ci.chapel-hill.nc.us/
After waiting for what seems like months, Flashlight
Fred is finally able to add MagLites
to our flashlight
offerings. MagLites offer a great
value in one of the best flashlights you can buy and Fred hopes youll take
a look. Dont forget, every flashlight
purchased from GoodBuyguys.com includes free
batteries.
September is a big month for our shipping and
receiving manager, Alan Garr, and hes someone we would like for you
to meet. Alan joined us last year and hes the one responsible for
making sure that you get just what you ordered and you get it
quickly. He does a great job.
Alan is a musician-both a songwriter and a
performer- and he is set to release a new album, his third.
Well let you know as soon as it is available.
Alans band, Alan
Garr & The Interstate Three, will
be performing at Carrboro Music Festival in a couple of weeks. Drop
by the WCOM
stage and check out Alans performance.
Alan not only ships the stuff you order, but he uses some of our
products as well. Take a look at our line of mic
stands for OnStage Stands. Its great
to have someone like Alan to give us some feedback on how our
products work in the real world.
If you have information to share about items you
have bought from us, please
let us know.
Let Alan tell you a little bit more about himself.

I am Alan Garr, the shipping manager here at GoodBuyGuys.com
I am also a working singer songwriter musician and
find working in this environment quite satisfying because we are
constantly dealing with others in the many fields related to the
performing arts and stage production.
I like to see what different sorts of uses people
have for our diverse line of products.
As a working example, my band, Interstate
Three, has a show
coming up locally here in Carrboro, NC
appearing at the Carrboromusicfest
on Sunday, September 24th. We play at 3pm on WCOM stage right across
from Weaver Street Market. There are a couple of products we have
available here at GoodBuyGuys.com that I find to be very helpful in
making set up and management much easier.
I use a 50'
Nextep black multi outlet extension
cord to run across the back of the stage. Since it has six
outlets spaced every 8 feet,
it eliminates the need for having to link extension cords together
all over stage to get power to all of your amps and effects racks,
especially when the number of available outlets is limited.
Speaking of stages, we were playing at the Bynum
Music series in Bynum, NC on an outdoor stage back in June and I had
some new songs I wanted to try out for the first time. Since my
memory isn't what it used to be, I needed a way to read lyrics and
tabs from stage after it began to get dark. There was nothing but
green ambient side light, which tends to make even a well printed
lyric sheet wash out and appear almost blank from stage. Thats where
the mylight
reading light came in. It was great
because I just clipped it to my music
stand and since it has a swivel mount,
I was able to simply aim and light up tabs and lyrics very easily
long into the night.
There are so many other products that make set up
easier, like using one
wrap straps to tie around mic and
guitar cables to keep them from tangling, which is probably my least
favorite thing about a gig! How many "morning afters" have
I spent trying to figure out how my cables got knotted up into such a
tangled mess in less than 6 hours!
I also sometimes wonder where my cables went and
if, perhaps, they are sitting in a tangled mess on somebody else's
floor somewhere. To reduce the probability of this happening, I use a
roll of neon colored spike
tape to mark all of my cables, so I
can easily recognize them from within the darkness of a club or back
stage. This is especially helpful if you are an opener, in a hurry
and need to strike quickly so that the next band can get set up.
Well it's back to the warehouse for me for now,
but as an addendum, anyone who goes to alangarr.com
and adds their name to our email list will be entered into a special
drawing to win a slightly used (and red wine stained, I think) voice
activated dancing Santa that I won on ebay just in time for Christmas
(sort of). If you win, just make sure and leave it off while on the
Weaver Street market lawn because I heard that both dancing
and singing have been recently banned. (see article).
Take care and have a great life.
